• Tell me a little about Reunion Farms Equestrian Center when was it established, and how has the program evolved over the years?

Reunion Farms Equestrian Center was established in the early 2000s with a goal of creating a welcoming environment where riders of all ages and experience levels could learn, grow, and enjoy the sport. What began as a small lesson and boarding program has grown into a full-service equestrian facility offering lessons, training, boarding, camps, clinics, and competition opportunities. Throughout the years, our focus has remained the same: providing quality instruction, exceptional horse care, and helping riders reach their individual goals, whether that’s enjoying their first lesson or competing at the highest levels of the sport.

• What types of riding and equestrian disciplines do you specialize in at Reunion Farms?

Reunion Farms specializes in hunter, jumper, and equitation riding while offering instruction for riders with a variety of goals. Our program focuses on building strong fundamentals, developing confident and well-rounded horsemen and horsewomen, and preparing riders for everything from recreational riding to high-level competition. While our instruction is centered around English disciplines, we proudly welcome Western riders in the Reunion Farms community as well. Our goal is to create an environment where horse enthusiasts of all disciplines feel at home and can enjoy the facility while sharing a passion for horses.

• Who rides at Reunion Farms? Do you work with beginners as well as experienced or competitive riders, and what ages do you typically serve?

We welcome riders ages 5 and up to all experience levels. Many of our students begin with no previous horse experience, while others are experienced riders looking to further their skills or compete. We work with young children taking their very first lesson, adult riders returning to the sport, and competitive riders pursuing championships at local, regional and national competitions.

• What riding lessons, training programs, teams, camps, clinics, or competition opportunities do you currently offer?

Reunion Farms offers private and group riding lessons, full training programs for both horses and riders, boarding, seasonal camps, clinics with respected professionals, and year-round competition opportunities. Our programs are designed to meet riders where they are, whether they’re taking their first lesson, developing their skills, or working toward success in the show ring

• Can you tell me about the farm itself – its acreage, arenas, barns, trails, pastures, and approximately how many horses are based there?

Reunion Farms is situated on approximately 30 acres and offers a safe, welcoming environment for both horses and riders. The facility includes two barns with a total of 56 stalls, indoor and outdoor riding arenas with new spacious pastures with daily turnout, a round pen, four hot and cold on demand wash stalls, riders lounge with kitchen as well as a dedicated grooming and tack up area in the dedicated barn for horses in our training and competition program. We are home to many horses, from lesson horses to privately owned horses, and we’re committed to providing quality care for each one.

• What do you think makes Reunion Farms unique within Mississippi's equestrian community?

What makes Reunion Farms unique is the sense of community we've built. We choose to call it our barn family. While horseback riding is often seen as an individual sport, our riders truly function as a team. They celebrate each other’s successes, support one another through the challenges, and genuinely want to see each other succeed, both in and out of the show ring.
Over the years, we've watched children grow up together here. Many of our riders have formed lifelong friendships because of the time they’ve spent at the barn. Seeing those friendships grow, watching young riders encourage one another, and knowing they’ve found a place where they truly belong is incredibly special. Reunion Farms has always been about more than riding. It’s about becoming part of a barn family that supports one another through every milestone, both in and out of the saddle.

• Have you seen interest in horseback riding growing in the Madison area or Mississippi in general in recent years? If so, what do you think is driving that growth??

Absolutely. While the equestrian community in Mississippi isn’t as large as it is in states like Florida or Kentucky, it’s a small but mighty community. We’ve definitely seen steady interest here in the Madison area over the years. More families are looking for activities that get their children outdoors, away from screens, and are involved in something that builds confidence, responsibility, and character. Horseback riding offers all of those things, and I think parents are recognizing the value of that.
We've also seen more people realize that riding isn't just for those who grow up owning horses. As lesson programs become more accessible and riders share their experiences, the sport feels much more approachable. Mississippi has a close-knit equestrian community with excellent opportunities for riders of all levels, making it easier than ever for someone to get started and continue progressing.

• For someone who has never ridden or does not own a horse, how accessible is the sport? Can someone come to Reunion Farms as a complete beginner? 

One of the biggest misconceptions about horseback riding is that you must own a horse or have experience getting started. At Reunion Farms, many of our riders walked through the gate knowing absolutely nothing about horses, and that’s exactly where everyone starts. We provide the horses, the equipment, and the instructions. All they need is a willingness to learn.
In fact, more of our riders than people might expect to start at Reunion Farms as complete beginners. Over the years, many of those same riders have gone on to win championships at Tryon International and earn circuit champion titles at some of the country’s premier horse shows. Watching that transformation from a first lesson to competing at that level is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

• What do you see children and young riders gain from working with horses beyond simply learning to ride?

Working with horses teaches children much more than just the ability to ride. It teaches responsibility, patience, confidence, and respect in ways that are difficult to find anywhere else. Horses require consistency, kindness, and trust, and those qualities naturally become part of a young rider's character that will last a lifetime.
One of the most rewarding things to witness is a child who comes into the barn shy or uncertain and gradually grows into someone who believes in themselves. The confidence they build doesn’t stay in the saddle; it follows them into every part of their lives. In the end, it’s never just been about creating great riders. It’s about helping shape kind, confident, resilient young people, and horses have an incredible way of doing exactly that.

• For riders who want to compete, what opportunities are available through Reunion Farms? Where do your riders typically compete?

For riders who want to compete, Reunion Farms offers opportunities at every level. Many riders begin at local schooling shows to build confidence and experience before progressing to recognized horse shows throughout the Southeast. Each year, our riders compete at some of the region's premier events, including the Gulf Coast Winter Classics, Brownland Farm, Germantown Charity Horse Show, Tryon International, and many more.
Along the way, our riders have earned numerous championship and circuit champion titles.
Whether a rider's goal is to step into the show ring for the first time or compete at the highest level, we provide the instruction, support, and opportunities to help them achieve those goals.
